Once, scrabbling among the tub of potatoes in Wellcome, a large cockroach jumped out.

I agree we live in an environment where cockroaches are inevitable, and if prevention consists of pesticide sprayed among food on display, I should prefer that things are left as they are.  I am more cautious now about what I dip my hand into.

Deadly spiders are sometimes found in bananas sold the the UK and elsewhere.
