At least not as far as I could see.  The 7-Eleven site will be a DCH Mart.  Just what we don't need in Discovery Bay.

Yes it is going to be a DCH Mart, which I had never heard of. I Googled it and it looks awfully cheap and tacky.

I've experienced DCH Mart in various places.  I remember it as a small supermarket with limited variety, where a few local people would buy frozen fish and similar stuff.  Hope I am not doing them a disservice but unless they have changed a great deal I'm not optimistic.

Guess I should not be disappointed after all these years.  On the bright side maybe M&S will be in the new mega shopping mall ?😜

Instead we get a frozen hot dog seller in DCH...I really struggle to get it sometimes!

HKRI must think no further than anyone willing to pay the rent.   In the past I've strolled into various DCHs and out again empty handed.  I predict no one will buy anything.  Bad for them and bad for us.  What a waste!

Well, I honestly hope that DCH will give Fusion a good run for their money because it has been an absolute mess and a rip-off since the renovation.
They have taken off a lot of the regular lines that have been "reasonably" priced by HK standards and replaced them with some obscure brands at double the price .
Pleace DCH , I hope you are reading this, you could make a killing if you do it right.
Otherwise you will be an empty outlet just like that butcher shop next to the photo shop, not far from you.

I agree wessa and PNS will now be charging higher prices to pay for the reno. There's never anyone in that posh butcher's, each time I pass I am surprised to see it still open.
M & S are constantly increasing their food range and prices are pretty good on a lot of things (for HK pricing) they would make a killing in DB.

Prices in M & S are reasonable.  Lettuce $15; tomatoes $22; cucumber $15; cabbage $20; kippers $39 and other 'specialist' food that costs much more at the upmarket shops if you can get it, that is.  Bear in mind food is fresh - you can eat it all and not throw half away because it's rotten - and their range is expanding all the time.

Much as I would like DCH to give Fusion a run for its money, I doubt if they have the range of produce to be a true competitor.  We shall see, I hope I am proved wrong, but to me substituting DCH for M & S is adding insult to injury.

Sorry but can't leave this subject alone.  I am hopping mad that we have missed out on a treasure trove.

WOW! went to confusion this afternoon and this very energetic lady was helping to pack bags, putting baskets away and directing shoppers to the next counter.
The typically slow as hell checkout girls were extremely fast today, obviously felt that they were under the radar.
I hope Confusion will keep it going given that DCH is about to open. About time  Fusion learned how to collect our hard earned money fast, without getting us all worked up with 30 min queues for 2 items.

The "posh butchers" which is called salt and pepper do wonderful marinated and defrosted turkeys. I get mine from there every year and my guests always comment on how moist and delicious it is. Art does an excellent job marinating them. They are also reasonably priced. My staff enjoyed one at lunchtime today....yum.

Lets support the local vendors ere we lose them

Taking everything in proper perspective, if we already "kill off" DCH mentally, how is it another competitor is going to give Fusion a run for their money. We should try and give DCH a chance and see how things unfold.

Otherwise we will be helping Fusion achieve their goal in getting ride of DCH.

Hmm, well yes and no.
I don't need to buy frozen hot dogs from DCH to get one over on Fusion.

I appreciate that not everyone leaves DB every day, but I do...and barely a day goes by where I don't carry something back.

This are a brief overview of what I do, and with a household the savings add up to multiple thousand dollars a year. At a rough guess this saves me between 15-20,000 a year, but this depends on what and how you spend your money.

-Wine, purchased from a wine merchant.
-Toiletries and household cleaning products from the type of pharmacies that sell milk powder to mainlanders.
-Frozen meat from Loi Chan.
-Veg from wet markets.
-Tinned goods and dried pasta etc from shops like Prizemart & 759 (there are many diff brands now).
-Western goods from M&S, or PnS Tung Chung, the latter delivers to DB.
-Spices from Yuan Heng Spice co.

I could go on, but basically the savings that can be made or huge.
Half or more of the above can be done online or by getting on a bus to Tung Chung. It's worth doing!
