Electric Mobility Devices - The Law in Hong Kong

Over the years, SNTPC and other long-term residents of Discovery Bay have campaigned for the formal legalization of electric bikes on Hong Kong's roads. The former British HK Government and the post-1997 HKSAR governments have blocked their formal legalized use on Hong Kong’s roads.  Angry We are now virtually the only developed territory in the world that has not embraced this environmentally friendly technology. Most Western countries have sensibly legalized electric bikes but have introduced regulations to regulate their design and maximum power etc.

I have since discovered Transport Department is running a "pilot scheme" for six months in Tai Po.

https://www.info.gov.hk/gia/general/202205/20/P2022052000253.htm

But the intention is to only consider allowing them "for short-distance commuting on a cycle track between a workplace and a transport hub: . Utterly ridiculous. Roll Eyes These devices have over two decades of use in other countries, so why the "need to access them and review the trial period" and still with no intention of allowing them on roads other than remote cycle tracks? They should just get on with passing the legislation to formally permit power-assisted bicycles on public roads but regulate their power and speed, adopting EU standards.
