Yes, tried there, I cannot believe that they are not easily accessible in HK,especially with the high rise residential blocks.

I ended up buying mine in the States years ago.  Might try the big Hardware neighborhoods like Wan Chai or Mongkok.  It is a big nuts the likes of Wing On doesn't sell them.

Thank you, it seems ridiculous that they are not readily available for purchase.

In my flat I have 2 smoke detectors, 1 carbon monoxide detector, a fire blanket and a fire extinguisher (the last 2 items you can purchase at Wing On)

I think that after the fire disaster in Grenfell Court in Kensington London that the items you mention will be in high demand at this time. Walk down the "hardware" lanes in Wanchai and you will soon find them. Sorry I don't know the names of the shop I bought them at.

There is a way on amazon to only show products which ship to HK. It helps a lot.

Sorry, I meant that Amazon US website allows you to select Hong Kong as the delivery destination, and automatically removes search results that wont ship to HK.

This saves you trawling through suppliers, only to find out later in the purchase process that it wont ship to HK.

Yes the best thing is to use a shipping consolidation company. The postage works out cheaper too. Electrical goods I have found generally cannot be shipped directly from Amazon to HK without using one of these companies.

Be careful however ordering electrical goods. Make certain that when ordering from the USA that the voltage requirements of the product will work here if they are to be connected to the electricity supply.

I have just read on another forum that smoke alarms are available from the Fire safety Shop on Mcgregor Street, just off Queen's Rd east next to Hotel Indigo in Wan Chai. www.fire.hk

I am not sure of the effectiveness of Smoke Detector/Fire Alarm in ordinary homes.

The reasons being that:
1. unless there is an inherent risk of fire in a particular home, eg demented elderly, there is little use of these detector/alarm.
2. if nobody is in the home and alarms goes off, who is going to pay attention and do anything, even in some village, I understand some lift's alarm goes off and nobody bothers
3. most electrical and gas equipment (eg cooking) have built in fail safe mechanism to prevent short circuits and fires.

Perhaps the question should be, are these detectors/alarms redundant?
