i caramba disappointment
Mar 2nd, 2010, 1:18pm

Had a very disappointing lunch a while ago at i Caramba.  Beef enchilada that came as flat as a pancake, with bits of paper-thin beef scattered inside.  Plus the beans were so raw that the water managed to float the whole mess.  This lovely $5 value item cost me $138 plus service, which was almost non-existant.

I wrote my comments on their web site, and they never responded, so I can only conclude customer feedback means nothing to them.

I really like Mexican type food once in a while.  Can anyone recommend what they do well?  Thanks

I have had the enchilada grande many times and never had a bad one. Service is lacking, but for the price, the food portions and quality have been very good. I go about 1-2 month.   Smiley

Can we get the name of this restaurant right? It's not "I Caramba", it's "Caramba!". The thing at the front is not an "I", it's an inverted exclamation mark as used in Spain before and after the words exclaimed. I know, I really should get out more.

I think Caramba should be priced at a similar level to Ebeneezers to be honest.
Like that mexican place in soho next to the escalator.

If that happened to be the case, then it would be one of my fav places in DB.
As it is, I struggle to pay zacs prices for a fast food type of experience.

Plus, I really like the huge meat pile for Zacks fajitas...puts carambas offering to shame.

Love the jugs of booze though (price once again an issue).

I find Caramba very poor value. Small portions for inflated prices.

70 bucks is good, but if its week day lunches then its no use for me.

Have not tried N22, small portions are a turnoff if true!??!

60 bucks for a glass of margarita, and 110-150 for a main at dinner though...not terrible, but too much to tempt. Caramba suffering from rent levels as always I guess. I think the Wan Chai one has some better deals.

I love that outdoor sit high bar though. Like to use that from time to time.

Tried Caramba for brunch for the first time last Sunday, and loved it! Good value - their Sunday Brunch meal has good size portions for only $98 per person, including coffee/tea. Really enjoyed my meal, and left very full. Unlike N22.

My wife an I have eaten many times at Caramba's  since moving to DB last year. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. When possible, we usually go on Friday nights. It may not be the best Mexican food, but I think they try to do the best they can.  Smiley

I like Caramba as well, it's not Michelin material but you get what you pay for. I especially think the quesadillas are brilliant (and cheap) when you're not looking for a full meal.

Caramba was good but they changed their Sunday brunch offer. They used to offer a juice, 2 corn bread muffins, your chosen dish and unlimited tea and coffee. They took away the juice and reduced to one cup of tea or coffee. They charged the same price. I asked them why they were giving less for the same price and they blamed the credit crunch. That was summer 2008. Perhaps they should understand that credit crunch is something that effects customers as well as restaurants - perhaps they could have come up with a better deal that had the customers lining up. Oh well- nevermind!

We love Caramba! Agree that prices could be lower but which place is cheap to eat out at DB really? They do decent tapas, quesadillas and enchiladas, chicken ones being the best of the lot. Never had a problem with the service either.

Having had real Mexican food many times in LA this restaurant proved a big disappointment 3 out of 3 times visited. Would not go back.

Been only 2 or 3 times. Food was good if over-priced but service is poor there - doubt I'd go back.
